On 22nd September 2024, the Rotary Club of Baramati successfully hosted the "Rotary Green Societies" Housing Society Meet at Gargate Farms, Phaltan Road, Baramati. The event, running from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, focused on promoting sustainability within housing societies by encouraging eco-friendly initiatives like water conservation, renewable energy adoption, and ecological services. The event saw an esteemed lineup of speakers and was graced by Rtn. Shital Shah, District Governor of RID 3131, as the chief guest. The meet was spearheaded by Rtn. Vastantrao Malunjkar, Director of Environment, along with Rtn. Keshav Tamhankar, Chairman of Green Factories & Societies, and Rtn. Savita Bhor, Program Coordinator of Green Societies, who highlighted the importance of environmentally conscious planning in residential communities. Rtn. Arvind Gargate, President of the Rotary Club of Baramati, and Rtn. Ravikiran Khartode, Secretary, were also present, along with Rtn. Dr. Hanmantrao Patil, Director of Environment, who reinforced the Rotary Club’s commitment to sustainable development through their various green initiatives. The event featured insightful keynote speeches by experts in the field. Shailesh Deshpande delivered a comprehensive talk on water conservation in housing societies, emphasizing the need for rainwater harvesting, greywater recycling, and responsible water management. Ketaki Sathe/Kulkarni, an ecological consultant, spoke about plantation and ecological services, sharing strategies for increasing green cover in societies and creating healthier ecosystems within residential areas. Hrishikesh Barve, an expert in renewable energy, presented on the benefits of adopting solar power solutions and other renewable energy sources in housing complexes, highlighting both the economic and environmental advantages. The meet was a collaborative effort, founded by the Rotary Club of Pune Wisdom and hosted by the Rotary Club of Baramati, with active partnerships from organizations like the Ecological Society, IGBC, and the Pune District Co-Operative Housing Societies and Apartments Federation. This impactful event provided housing society representatives with practical solutions for adopting green practices, fostering a community-driven approach to sustainability.
